Who am I?
Everyone should have the tools to improve well-being
Greetings everyone. My name is Ghera Boryachinskiy. I am a former professional tennis player and current movement/ performance trainer.
I want to tell you about why I got started writing and coaching.
My whole life all I wanted to do was be a professional athlete. That was my identity and my sole purpose for over 18 years. (This mindset caused issues further down the line… but more on that in a bit)
I started playing tennis at 7 years old as an unathletic, tall, lanky, kid. I was gifted with a mind that analyzes things in a holistic manner, and I was a hard worker. But what I was gifted mentally, I was deficient in physically.
If it wasn’t for my my father, being a former professional Fencer in the former Soviet Union, I would have never physically developed into any kind of athlete. That I am absolutely positive about.
I was very fortunate I had a father that had the knowledge, (Soviets had some of the best protocols for physical preparation that are still used today), the commitment and dedication to spend time with me to develop me into an athlete.
Fast forward to when I am 18, I sign my LOI to Clemson University to play Division I varsity tennis for them on a scholarship. Still tall, lanky, and weak, but with some semblance of coordination and hard work I made it onto the team.
Through out the 4 years, I have sustained countless injuries due to, improper preparation, incorrect bio-mechanics, and some of my own stubbornness.
SI joint issues, stress fractures in my shins, constant back spasms, and shoulder problems that eventually culminated in arthroscopic surgery to remove pieces of cartilage that were floating around in my shoulder.
After a stint with a Human Performance company, I dove into the world of health, movement, and nutrition.
Know what I learned?
Most of my issues could have been prevented. Not only would they have been prevented, but they would also have improved my performance significantly. Would I be a US Open champion? Can’t say for sure.
But what I do know for sure, is that I would have performed much better, been much healthier, and would have enjoyed the process a lot more. And at that point, who knows what would have happened?
My goal here is to share with you everything that I have learned over my 30 years in the space of athletics, health, and well being.
For the athletes, I realize that not everyone has a family member with a wealth of knowledge that is able to spend countless hours with you to develop that.
I also realize that hiring nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches, speed coaches, etc… requires a lot of money that most people don’t have.
Not to mention it is not guarantee that those you hire will be good for your or even effective at what they do.
There is is a lot of gimmickry and marketing tricks out there to get people to invest their hard earned money into something that has been around for years and can be implemented yourself.
Not all doctors are good at what they do, not all trainers are good at what they do, not all nutritionists are good at what they do. You need to find a professional that is competent in their field and… this is important… are a great fit for you!
What I want to do is to be able to communicate this information on a large scale so that people can increase their well being on their own without dependence on the current medical establishment (How well are they doing anyway?)
